What a great group of people to work with. At the time MDL consisted of 2 partners, 4 designers, 3 engineers. It's amazing what you can do with such small numbers of people. My stint there ran 4 months, but the 10 projects I got to work on during my tenure was amazing. There's some highlights below.

Barnes & Noble

What an awesome tool. Barnes & Noble have book buyers who are responsible for purchasing for all of their retail stores througout the US. We were tasked with redesigning their existing windows application dashboard and workbench tool into a web app. The dashboard gives at-a-glance sales performance information from multiple dimensions. The workbench provides the ability to manage titles for all the stores and regions a buyer is responsible for.

I was responsible for a single concept for 3 separate ares; dashboard, workbench and search. Myself and 2 other designers collaborated on the designs and their iterations. Like all the other projects we also presented our designs to the client through in-person or via gotomeeting.

Tript

Tript was a trip. A brand new startup with a fun yet fresh idea. Think travelblog but with a social web angle. From there our team was responsible for creating the entire experience. Branding, through design, and finally implementation.

Like many of my other projects I was working with a team of 3 designers and 2 engineers. After going through the requirements documentation or conversations with the client we began the process of design. I was responsible for a single concept through 3 iterations. Below are 2 different iterations of the same page; the destination.

Startup Agents

Our team was brought in to design, from the ground up, a web app connecting talent and agents beginning a startup. Think of LinkedIn but with two primary users; agents and talent.

I was responsible for generating a single concept around 3 pages; profile, messaging, and the home page. Below are 2 separate iterations of the profile and messaging components.

Success Metrics

Success Metrics is an analytics reporting tool that allows users to create their own dashboard with data they own. Our group of designers and engineers were brought in to redesign this user experience. Below is a concept illustrating the dashboard and all the elements found on that page.

For this project I was the lead designer, managed the communication with the client, and oversaw the design cycles. I was also responsible for one of the three concepts delivered to the client.

California Association of Realtors

CAR brought us in to design a white-label social realtor management tool. It enabled brokers to create, manage, and share realestate transactions with customers. Below are a few framework concepts illustrating key pages in the overall user experience.

All.com

We were tasked with creating a Java based p2p media client which allowed anyone to catalog, tag, share and discuss media of any kind. Below are a few framework concepts illustrating key pages in the overall user experience; explore content, quick search content, advanced search, and a media player.

My role in this process was to take the requirements and illustrate a layout, user interaction model and a basic visual design pass before our internal review. From there we decided on 3 directions, fleshing those out and presenting to the client. The mocks below represent that state.

Explore Content. Many of my framework designs don't use color. As well many of the graphics and buttons are stand-in since the primary focus at this point is layout and interaction model.

My creative process is focused around the Lean UX / Agile methodology; instantly bringing a design into focus and delivering amazing experiences. This takes shape by stripping a deliverable down to its core components, providing a level of detail necessary to kick-start development. The goal is to get ideas quickly visualized and in front of the team, showing work early and often.

The key is collaboration, which becomes critical to the success of the team and ultimately, the product. Not your stereotypical solitary designer "lone wolf" - I'm in your implementation team, co-mingling with subject-matter experts or conducting a contextual inquiry with customers. Here conversation occurs dynamically, with laser beam energy. Work is printed up, displayed on walls available for review sessions, adhoc conversations, ideation or inspiration.

If you're looking for a user experience designer who delivers in short, iterative, fast-paced cycles, integrating feedback from all members of an implementation team, leading to high quality product experiences, we should talk.

Take a look around. To the right you'll find retrospectives on some of my most popular projects. The links below are a few deviations I've explored. Feel free to reach out to see even more recent, relevant work.
